Welcome to the Mars Family Home! Just about a year ago we left our hometown in the DC area to live in the low country of sunny South Carolina. Not having much previous knowledge of the area, we quickly rented a cheap place pretty far inland. It was a great place to start, but from day one the idea has always been, the closer to the beach the better! Alas, we have moved to our new place and are finally settled into a more permanent residence in James Island, just a few minutes from the ocean.
We truly couldn't be happier! James Island is a beautiful, small town where we're surrounded by our closest friends, palm trees and heavenly views. Anything and everything we need is practically within walking distance. Our new home is wonderfully cozy, with lots of charm inside and out, but perhaps our favorite room in the whole house is the sunroom..
The large screened in area allows us to enjoy the gorgeous outdoors, without the mosquitoes bothering us. There's plenty of room to spread out and the far wall opens us like barn doors into our back yard. A variety of antique and thrifted outdoor furniture bring the room together, a swinging chair, a wicker peacock throne and a chaise lounge, all doused in a heavy coat of colorful SoulMakes pillows and blankets. Lots of little crystals and candles linger here and there, adding good vibes all around. An epic collection of shells, (humanely) collected on Folly Beach, right down the road, thoughtfully sorted and displayed, a touch of green with small tropical plants swaying about and the sweet smell of sugar magnolia blooms drifting in from over the neighbors fence, make this spot the perfect place to rest and meditate. A chorus of nature can be heard throughout the day, birds singing, lizards playing, and the sweet summer swamp sounds buzz and chirp through the night. If you tune in really close, you can hear church bells ringing far off in the distance. This room is a peaceful oasis, an quick and easy escape from from work!
Where do you go to relax?
